This artifact is a reflection of how I met the technology standards in this Educational class. I think this assignment was good because it made me look at how all the assignments from this class related to at least one technological standard. Everything I learned in this class will be very useful when I start teaching. I can't wait to create more WebQuests, podcasts, digital stories and more!
7.1 Apply technology to the delivery of standards-based instruction.
This Educational Technology class has prepared me to demonstrate Standard 7.1 in many ways. I was able to learn about and use Web 2.0 tools, podcasting, digital storytelling, SMART Board, SMART Notebook, WebQuests and visual literacy in order to develop lessons to instruct future students. All of these are just a few technological resources that I can use to deliver standards-based instruction. For example, the Day of the Dead digital storytelling project that I created was designed to meet the Culture standard for teaching World Languages.
7.2 Use technology to increase student achievement.
The podcasting assignment that I did in this class taught me the basics of podcasting. Now I can create and use existing podcasts to help students increase their listening comprehension skills when learning a second language which in turn increases student achievement.
7.3 Utilize technology to manage and communicate information.
I have met this standard by learning about all the available Web 2.0 tools that are available for teachers. One tool that I can use to manage and communicate information would be Google Docs. I can use it to create documents that I share with others. These documents are editable so they are easier to manage. Also, I can create a test with Google Docs and have my students take the test using Google Docs. This tool has the ability to manage the test score for each student so that I don’t have to grade each one individually. Google Docs is just one great tool that manages information.
Using a social networking site meant for schools would be another use of technology that manages and communicates information to students and teachers.
7.4 Apply technology to data-driven assessments of learning.
There are many ways to apply technology to data-driven assessments of learning. One way is by using the Google Docs for tests as I already mentioned above. Another is using a rubric on technology assignments that students have completed. For example, the WebQuest that I created about traveling to a Spanish speaking country assesses students’ knowledge that was acquired by doing the technological assignment. Another way to meet this standard would be to give students an assignment creating their own digital story or podcast. These assignments could also be used to meet this standard.
7.5 Instruct students in basic technology skills.
I believe that I have met this standard by designing a WebQuest for students as well as a SMART Notebook lesson. For the SMART Notebook lesson, students use the SMART Board in addition to the computer. By doing lessons with these resources, students are learning and using basic technology skills. Another example of meeting this standard would be using PowerPoint for delivering instruction or for homework assignments.
